On the other hand, there are also constant opportunities to divide one another with hate and anger. Watching the news on any given night, you will see (at least portrayed through the eyes of the media) a world filled with hate and anger. Murders, robberies, gangs, violence, all happening all the time. It’s part of the world that we live in. Even the world of politics has become so divided that people with different political views often can’t stand the site of one another. But every once in a while, you will see a story of heroism, bravery, or a random act of kindness from a complete stranger.

If your email inbox looks anything like mine, it’s filled with daily emails selling the latest product from different companies. In fact, I get emails daily from the same companies. They are constantly trying to sell me something. In fact, I can’t even tell you what they are trying to sell me because I don’t even open the emails any more. The more emails I get from a company telling me what a great deal they have, the more I don’t want to use their services. Don’t get me wrong, I love good advertising, and there are companies that I will actually use solely because of their marketing techniques.

Is your marketing plan like so many other companies out there? I understand the need to keep your company at the front of your customer’s minds (especially in the bounce house industry that has customers that may only rent your product once a year). But what if I told you there was a better way to grab a hold of your customer’s attention?

How long has it been since you’ve touched the content on your website? Did you know that Google rewards websites that continually change and update the content of their websites? Little changes to your content can go a long way toward improving your ranking within the major search engines.

A simple way to make changes to your website is by offering promotions for different holidays (plus it’s a great way to market your business and reward customers). This is a great way to add keywords and phrases to your text as well. For instance, you may want to make a Valentine’s Day Special that offers a discount for “bouncers” rented in February. Keep in mind that the more relevant keywords you use, the better.

If you own your own small business, we all know there are a million things to do…every day! Sometimes we get so busy worrying about the little things that we forget the big things that really matter. You must prioritize if you want to stay on top of your game. Follow these rules to get your life back:

1) Remember why you went into business in the first place. Did you go into business because you felt like you could provide your customers with great customer service? If so, go back to the basics. If you accomplish one thing today, make sure that you have provided your customers with the best customer service that the industry can provide. Did you go into business because you have a background in marketing and thought you could provide excellent marketing to help your business succeed? Again, focus on your marketing strengths today.

2) Set a day to day calendar. I find it helpful to literally write out everything that I plan on accomplishing throughout the day. I am not a good multi-tasker, so I find it easier to work my way through a daily schedule. If I can see what I am supposed to accomplish that day, it is easier for me to work toward those goals.

3) Use business techniques that help free up some of your valuable time. For instance, if you work in the party rental industry, there is software that is available that can streamline your business. Freeing up your time can help you accomplish your goals much more easily. If you find yourself working all hours of the day and night, it may be time to consider adding some help. Again, hiring someone to take some of your load off can free up a lot of your time to focus on your strengths.

4) Take a break. I know it may sound counter intuitive, but sometimes stepping away for a little while can really rejuvenate your spirit. Do you have a family that you haven’t seen very much lately? Do you have any hobbies? Do you enjoy playing sports? Take some time to do what you enjoy doing. After all, if you don’t have time to enjoy life, you aren’t really taking advantage of all of the benefits that owning your own business can provide.

Just remember, life is meant to be fun! Work hard, set those priorities, and enjoy watching your business grow.

Hoover Duct Cleaning just made a customer for life. Let me explain. My wife and I recently had dryer problems that needed repair. While he was here, the technician told me that our dryer was not working properly because there was too much lint in the dryer vent. He recommended that we get the dryer vent cleaned out to help the dryer work more efficiently and lessen the chance of a fire. That’s where Hoover Duct Cleaning comes into the picture. We were already happy with the service, and they could have easily gotten away with taking the money that we had agreed upon. Instead, we voided the original check and wrote them a new check for the new amount. I have now told several friends and relatives (as well as the world) about the great service that Hoover Duct Cleaning provided us with. Not only did they make us happy, but I’m sure they will make our friends happy as well (because they are sure to hire them if they ever need duct cleaning). This experience got me to thinking about how far great customer service can take a company. In the rental industry, the employees that make deliveries are literally the face of your company. Your customers will decide whether or not to use your company again based on the professionalism and integrity of your employees. Furthermore, they will tell their family and friends about your service (good or bad). Have you made great customer service one of your companies biggest priorities? Do your employees know just how important great customer service is to you and your business? If you haven’t done so recently, I encourage you to remind all of your employees to work with integrity and supply your customers with the best customer service in the industry. As you are developing your marketing plan, it should go without saying that you should aim your marketing strategies at your target population. However, getting to know your target population can sometimes be difficult.  In your bounce house business you may have noticed that when you go to pick up your units after a rental, oftentimes you find older kids playing on the jump. Therefore, it would be wise to market to the older age group of children, correct? Not necessarily. While it is true that older children normally use your equipment, our reports show that the most common age for bounce house rentals are for children between the ages of 2-5 (older kids are invited to the party and use the equipment for longer periods of time).  Therefore, when developing a marketing strategy for the bounce house industry, your target audience should be geared toward mothers of toddlers. This advice can be especially helpful for those companies that are just getting started and don’t have a large inventory. Remember, keep your customers in mind when you make marketing decisions.

If you have the time to set up your own SEM campaign, go for it. If you are nervous that you do not have the time or the computer skills, you may want to hire an expert in the field to help set up your campaign. 2. Social Media: Like it or not, social media is now a part of our world (like reality television). Social Media is a great way to keep in contact with your customers. It is safe to say that people are spending more and more time online. While online, they are using social media sites such as Facebook. Make sure that you don’t barrage your customers with an onslaught of advertisements when you are posting on social media sites. Nobody wants to go on to Facebook to see your advertisement every day. Instead, post light hearted fun topics that people will want comment on (comments and reviews can also serve as a good tool to use when deciding what is working and what is not working). Save the blatant advertising for special occasions when you have really big news that you have to share with everyone.

3. Direct Marketing: Okay, so you want to actually advertise your business directly to your customers. Use localized marketing and geotargeting strategies to find out exactly what your customers want. Review sites are very popular. You can see what people are saying about you, and make changes that directly serve your customers needs. Sites such as Groupon are also becoming more popular as people try to save in the economy. These websites also allow people to learn more about your company. As an added bonus of using these strategies, you can see what your competitors are offering, and what people are saying about them.

4. Marketing for Mobile Phones: Mobile marketing is becoming more and more of a necessity. With technologies from iPhones and Androids, people are beginning to do more of their web browsing on their phones. Make sure that you have a mobile-friendly website.
